CTK is an architecture and project management firm run by Billy Cotton, Joerg Thoene (AIA), and Ilya Korolev (AIA). With an exceptional sensitivity to context, CTK takes into account the factors of history, site, community, lifestyle, and aesthetic perspective. Equally focused on sustainable systems, the firm deftly navigates adaptive reuse, preservation, and new construction, both residential and commercial. Billy Cotton brings twenty years of interior and industrial design experiences, expertly bridging client experience and technical execution. Joerg Thoene contributes the highest level of sustainability practices, as well as a meticulous eye for interior and construction detail and the larger architectural gesture honed in both the academic world of architecture and residential firms. Ilya Korolev’s twenty years with large architecture and planning firms, as well as his longtime collaboration with Billy Cotton, gives him a unique understanding of the relationship between elegance and functionality for any project regardless of scale and complexity or artistic approach. It is the melding of these three singular experiences that makes the foundation of CTK relevant for those committed to elevated yet responsible design.
Billy Cotton is an American designer whose work has spanned interior design, product design and architecture. Trained as an industrial designer, he is particularly interested with the details and ergonomics of space. Over the last twenty years, architectural interventions and planning have become an integral part of his design work. The skills he has honed in making sure that interiors, exteriors, and site work in unison are an important part of what he brings to CTK. His efforts have been recognized on the Architectural Digest AD100, Elle Décor A-list and featured in publications such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The World of Interiors, among others.
Following his formal architectural training in Germany, Jörg Thöne was offered a teaching position at Parsons School of Design in New York due to his background in sustainability and green building practices. Eventually, he became lead architect in several New York firms, working on a wide range of project types and programs. While highly qualified in the efficiency space, Thoene also developed his long-held interest in detailed interior work within the broader context of his architectural practice.
Ilya Korolev is an architect with more than twenty years of professional experience spanning across variety of building types, scales, and locations. His journey began with a solid foundation of classical principles at the Moscow Architecture Institute before embracing architectural innovation at New York's Pratt Institute School of Architecture. Ilya’s portfolio, developed through meticulous work in boutique New York architecture offices and his own firm, reflects a delicate interplay between historical elegance and modern functionality and lifestyles.
